V-Tech CS5111 5.8GHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Silver/Black) Reviews

After my home phone broke, I was looking for a cheap replacement. Like most households now are not using their home phones, I still keep a home phone just in case, and talk to the occasional telemarketer that get passed the Do Not Call list(j/k) Well I was looking for reliable, caller ID, high frequency that won’t interfere with my wireless network, Back lit, and most importantly Cheap. I have purchased V-Tech before and had no problems. At first I was skeptical but I have come to give some cheaper brands a try. It is easy to set up. The buttons are nice and big, Caller ID back lighting is great, enough to see when it rings in the dark. It does not interfere with my wireless network which is important cause we have 4-6 computers/laptops connected. The sound is clear and crisp. You cannot go wrong with this phone and its price.

My 15 year old Radio Shack cordless died so I got this one VTech CS5111 as a replacement. I also have 4 other cordless telephones in use throughout the home and external buildings. The Vtech is equal to or better than all of them. I found the audio normal and the phone comfortable to my ear. It is very simple to operate. I would certainly buy one again.

Panasonic KX-TG6052B 5.8 GHz FHSS Expandable Digital Cordless Phone System with 2 Handsets Reviews

I recently bought this cordless phone for my parents as they were having trouble rushing to reach one of their corded extensions. So far it is great. Because it comes with two handheld units, they each get to carry one with them all day. The best part is that the phones come with built-in intercoms and they can communicate with each other via the intercom when they are in different rooms (which is frequently!). My father, who is also hard of hearing and has difficulty hearing conversations on most phones, has no problem hearing people on this phone. So all in all, a great phone. So great, in fact, that I’m thinking of purchasing one for myself and my wife!

The phone itself is awesome! It does everything you can possibly think of: talking caller id from each handset, speakerphones with mute option on each handset, message retrieve from each handset, intercom option, note/message option on base unit, internal phone book on each handset, ringer id for each handset – the list is endless. The only thing I would change is the wall mount option. I bought this phone for my kitchen wall, and although it does have the wall mount plate, the phone base must sit horizontally or the handset will fall out. When mounted to the wall, it sits at a 90-degree angle. It sticks out sort of far, so if the phone is in a high-traffic area it will be bumped into. It also is difficult to see since most phone plates sit close to eye level. I have to stand on my toes to see the buttons to check for messages. As long as you plan to use the base phone on a desk, you can’t go wrong!

Uniden DXAI8560-2 5.8 GHz Digital Caller ID Cordless Phone with One Extra Handset/Cradle Reviews

I have no problems with the performance of the phones. Sound quality and distance are fine.
What I did not realize until too late was:
1. You cannot use both phones at once. This is really surprising and annoying when two people want to be on a conversation.
2. There is no “mute” feature, neither when on handset nor on speakerphone. This is a significant problem when on a long conference call where you are mostly listening in.
It looks so much like my other Uniden cordless set (a two-line model) that I assumed it also had these same, basic features.
Update 1 month later: Both handsets now die at random during phone calls. I’ve just thrown the phones out. They are clearly inferior to other Uniden phones I’ve had. I’ve replaced this model with Uniden TRU9485.
I’d change the rating to one star, but apparently one cannot edit the star # in an existing review.

I bought these phones to replace my 5 year old phone… it had issues as you will be able to assume. These phones were easy to set up, and have been great. Reception is good in every room of my home. The only down side is that reception is not great in the yard. Fine for everyday use, and easy to read caller id built in is a plus.

Uniden TRU8885-2 5.8 GHz Digital Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Answering System Reviews

I’ve been wanting to get a 5.8ghz phone system for a while, but all previous models seemed to always have some kind of major shortcoming. Seems Uniden recognized this and came out with a model to beat all previous ones. The 8885 and 8865 models are newer versions of their old 5860/85 lines. It has pretty much any feature you could want.Just to highlight some of the strong points:
1. Nice phone design. Perfect size and not as ugly as the previous model.
2. Perfect reception. Anywhere in our house the phone is crystal clear.
3. Speakerphone in the base and from every handset.
4. Intercom/Paging between phones
5. 100 number phonebook (although it shares entries with callerid). You can keep separate phonebooks per phone, or download the phonebook from other phones.
6. DirectLink mode, where you can use the handsets as walkie-talkies. Although in my opinion the phones are a tad too big to carry around with you everywhere, but it might be nice for specific situations. I haven’t tested the range though.
7. You can have the base + 2 handsets speaking on the line at the same time. The previous model was limited to 1 handset per conversation.
8. Customizable ringtones – can assign a certain ringtone to a certain caller so you know who they are. Can only use the builtin tones though.
9. Handsets have a plug to use with a headset for handsfree operation
10. Can access the voicemail from any of the handsets, not just from the base. Those are just some of the major features, there’s plenty of other little bells and whistles to configure the phone. My only 2 complaint is that incoming caller ID gets stored on every phone. There is no way to just delete it from all phones at once. You need to go to each phone individually to delete the callerid list. Fortunately there is a delete all option. One other potential complaint is that you can’t set up separate mailboxes on the answering machine. I know some of the other brands let you do this. No biggee for me as I wouldn’t use the feature anyways, but might be important to some. Those might just be nitpicks though. This system really exceeded my expectations and I give it the highest recommendation possible.

After years of living with my Siemens 2415, I had to replace them with a 5.8ghz due to interference from a neighbor’s wireless network (so annoying). I was disappointed with the 5.8 ghz models on the market (big antennas and poor design) and was waiting for something upto the level of Siemen’s, but tried the Uniden based on the rave reviews here. After a few weeks, I would say they are quite good with flaws. Good reception. Good design. They have all the features you could want. A big plus not mentioned elsewhere is the “do not disturb” button on the base which will shut off all ringers and call screening, perfect for napping. Plus all phones clearly say Do Not Disturb so you won’t forget about it later.
Orange LCD is very bright and readable (not my favorite color but you get used to it). Handsets are attractive. The Base is another story, not as attractive and buttons are really small and hard to decipher.
Handsets are comfortable to use and you can easily adjust volume when on the phone. Caller ID on Call waiting is a pleasure as the name doesn’t disappear as soon as you take the receiver away from your ear, it gives you a chance to see it.
Also a nice bonus is being able to call screen on any handset even though it is done through the speaker phone.
Retrieving messages on the Handset is also a good feature.
Many Minor Flaws, the first is Caller ID. Caller ID must be reset on each phone and base separately. It will tell you how many times a number has called but then that info disappears after you read it once on that handset. Most odd. Keep that info and put a star next to the new Caller ID’s instead.
Time and Date must be set manually for answering machine and not taken from caller id. Answering machine annoyingly tells you what time it is when you call in first. Then tells you how many new and old messages you have, then repeats that info when you press the button to actually play the messages. Beyond redundant.
Most bizarre is that when you retrieve message from the handset you press single digits, but when calling in from outside, you must press 2 digits, you must press a preceding 0. Ridiculous.
You pick your security code but it is only 2 digits long. Again ridiculous especially in this day and age.
Answering machine doesn’t correlate to Caller ID so you can’t easily see number of hangup or person leaving message. You must go into Caller ID and correlate the time and number yourself.
There is no way to delete the entire phone book in a handset, you must delete each entry separately. Kind of dumb.
The alphabetizing of names in the directory is also dumb, as non letters are placed in priority after letters. There is no easy way to force someone at the front of for example the B’s with B1: Name B2: Name as I used to do. The only way now is by BA1: BA2: etc. Too cumbersome. And any symbol used is also placed after z for alphabetizing, so preceding symbols don’t work either.
Caps are the default when typing in names. So you must press button 4-6 times just to get lower case. Very annoying unless you like all your names in all Caps.
You can’t edit phone numbers without deleting numbers first, text however is fully editable.
The ringers are acceptable but on par with the cell phones of 2 generations ago. Where are downloadable ringers or more normal ringers. And why do we have only low and high and off settings? Where is a midground of medium?
The delay when distinctive ring is on is way too long. Phones light up and you wait and wait for it to ring. I had to turn this feature off to get phone to ring when it lights up.
I would prefer a base with no buttons at all more like Siemens and everything in the soft menus.
Also a higher price with more memory would be better. More minutes for messages and give me 100 memories for both Caller ID and Directory. I need 100 just for the phone book alone.
Even with all these minor/major annoyances and flaws, the phones seem to offer much more than the competition at a fair price and in my opinion clearly the only game in town so far…

Uniden TRU9585-2 Digital 5.8 GHz Digital Cordless Phone/Answering System with One Extra Handset/Cradle Reviews

Uniden 5.8GHz model TRU 9585-2 has smooth solid finish and good functionality. You need to push SEND button after dialing the number and hand-held units are ergonomically designed to be dialed with one hand, which gives them actually look and feel of some Nokia cell phones – very cool. Not too bulky and no squeaky buttons. Speaker phone on base unit and hand units and the answering system are easy to use. Base looks great on the desk and wall mount attachment is easy to install. Also, this model is sending and receiving with 5.8 GHz, not like some manufacturers that cheat and switch. Buttons on hand units are well-lit when dialing. I used two very good high-end Panasonic 2.4 GHz models for years but recently started having problems because of wireless routers and laptops; therefore I had to change to 5.8GHz, and after checking specifications for dozens of cordless phones, Uniden 9585-2 appears to be one of the best 5.8GHZ available. There is an unofficial test for the phones: when you talk to another person on the phone you should be able to “see” when that person is smiling. With this phone you can, believe it or not. I tried couple of other latest cordless phones in its price range or higher which had really good reviews, and returned them because voice was either unpleasant metallic or too distorted and processed. This Uniden sounds natural like regular traditional wired phone. I would recommend this phone to anyone who likes good quality and professionally looking electronics, either for home use or for business.

Pros-
The specs on this phone are great. Different feature settings for global or handset is a nice touch. The set does just about everything you could ask for.
Cons-
Call quality is average, answering system sounds muffled, intermittent issue with handsets not registering with the base.
There are alot of phone choices, keep looking.

AT&T TL70008 5.8GHz Digital Cordless Expansion Handset (Titanium and Metallic Charcoal) Reviews

This is one of the best phones I’ve owned. A lot of features and very good reception.

We bought this handset to go with the other three that came with the 5.8 GHz ATT cordless phone and answering machine we received for Christmas. It works great, even from the basement (the base station is in the kitchen upstairs), and there is no interference or noise. Two handsets can be used at the same time and each handset has a speakerphone for those times when you want to use the computer at the same time or when you are stuck on hold for too long. All butttons are lighted and any numbers or names entered and saved also show up on the other handsets.
