We purchased these telephones as a replacement for our old VTechs. We had a problem with our phone system and as a result purchased new phones during the diagnosing phase. Our VTechs lasted over 10 years and, as it turns out, were still working well. So we replaced them with VTechs and glad that we stayed with the same manufacturer. The new phones have all the features we expected and they work great with our phone company’s set-up. Easy to create your own directory, retrieve numbers, etc. Most of the functions I did without reading the manual. Very user friendly. You will be glad you purchased this phone system.

I have been using my new VTECH phones for about a month now–I wanted to wait at least this long before submitting a review so I could give the product a workout and submit a fair review.

The phones are light weight but well built; the buttons have a great feel and the display is easy to read. I spent about 10 minutes reviewing the nicely organized and easy-to-understand instruction manual before I was well on my way to programming numbers and setting other features. The sound quality has been consistently good and once you’ve reviewed the manual you’ll find the buttons and features to be quite intuitive.

From a practical standpoint, I was looking for a two-station cordless phone that does not have a built-in answering machine as I have voicemail with my phone service. So this phone fit the bill.

There are a couple of features I miss from my old phones I replaced–a belt clip (for trips to the garage when I don’t want to miss a call) and a headphone jack. However, given the excellent price point of this product, I have no room to complain (For long conference calls I have been using the speakerphone feature, which also works well). I read some reviews where people complained that this phone does not have distinctive ring tones. If this is a feature you absolutely can’t live without, look for a different product–remember, the price is great for what you get.

In case you’re wondering, I have had zero interference with my home wireless network, which would have prompted me to immediately return this product.

The bottom line: If you’re looking for a good-quality phone at a very attractive price, this is the one.

I got this phone about a week ago in order to replace a 2.4 panasonic that died -some numbers were not dialing and finally battery hookup broke off- In general I like the phone but it has some major things I don’t like.

Pros: Easy to set up. You get 2 phones with 1 phone jack. Speakers are great! (unlike with my old phone people don’t complain when I use them). You can hear answering machines messages from either remote set. Phonebook sharing. You can conference between phones and call each other (big hit with my kids).

Cons:

1. There is something wrong with the volume (I read complains about it in reviews in Circuit city and thought maybe person had hearing problem… but no, they were right). Let me explain: the volume goes up and down by itself for no good reason. One phone call you hear great and next one is really low so you need to adjust volume and it goes up and then down on its own again -sometimes during the same call while you are talking- …. You can live with it, you adjust volume but I don’t particularly like playing with volume every other call! For me it is really a pain!

2. Answering machine base don’t display the number of messages you have (it has no lcd screen!). No talking id or any other fancy stuff either.

3. When you play messages from answering machine the sound is a little boxy, robot like…not clear. This does not happen if you hear messages from the phones themselves.

In conclusion I would say this is an all right phone, I expected better… but it is also not very expensive and it has the latest technology. I guess now I know why some 5.8 panasonic phones (previous technology) were more expensive than this one… you get what you pay.

I have just used this for 3 days now. Very happy. The specifications do little justice to this phone. 1. This unit has a speakerphone on both handsets. I thought there would be just one on the base fixed unit. 2. Unlike the comparable Uniden model, this has a headset jack. 3. The buttons are big and easy to dial.

No wireless router interference. Overall very happy so far. Much more than I expected.

Pros: Relatively cheap, especially if you are not paying Amazon.com price. You can get these phones for 19.99 elsewhere. Small footprint. Looks good. Intuitive setup. Sound comes through loud and clear.

Cons: So far, everyone I have called told me that there is breakup and static and other artifacts on their end….worse than my dead Uniden cordless phone (also a cheapie.)

Summary: Decent for the price, but definitely not perfect.

Just got this phone and set it up, so I can’t really say yet how it will function as a phone. It looks like it will be fine …

… Except that it would have been good to know that you can’t use a headset with it. The handsets have no place to plug a headset in. (I like to wear a headset and slip the handset into a pocket, to be able to talk hands-free.) As far as I can tell (and if anybody knows different, please reply and let me know) you can’t do that with this phone system. Since my prior cordless phone, which was ancient and cheap, had such a feature, I figured all cordless phones did.

It’s kinda hard to find a “simple” cordless phone these days — either the manufacturers want to sell you 2, 3, or 4 at once, or they want to include a bunch of extra features (answering machines, multi-line capabilities, etc.) that you don’t need.

The Panasonic here is different: It really is a “basic” phone, and the execution is superb. Voice quality is excellent, and while I might have done the user-interface slightly differently, it is at the level that anyone can pick up the phone and figure out how to, e.g., add or use address book memories without having to look at the instructions. (The full dot-matrix LCD — in a pleasing blue on gray color — helps here.)

Most of the time I use this while in front of a computer, so I use the (very inexpensive) Panasonic headset that Amazon sells (it’s just a standard 2.5mm plug, so it’ll work with most standard cell phones or cordless phones) to keep both hands free. Works great…

You can purchase additional “extension” units for this phone if you do want more than one, although in those cases it probably makes more sense (e.g., would save money) to buy one of the “multi-packs” initially.

Quick Take: If you want a modestly priced, reliable phone without an answering machine, this phone is a good choice. The second handset model Panasonic Dect 6.0 Dark Grey Cordless Phone (KX-TG6412M) is also nice for putting a phone where you don’t have a jack. (KX-TG6411 is single handset version).

DETAILS:

I am a long time user, and fan, of Panasonic wireless telephone equipment. Until recently, I was using a higher end version of their DECT wireless phones. But I had one frustration – I was unable to fully disable the answering machine function on my higher end unit. If it got enough rings, it would turn itself on. This is the first truly bone-headed feature I have seen from Panasonic. But I digress.

In order to solve my need to NOT have an answering machine, I set out looking for a phone without that feature. To my surprise, an answering machine free phone is very difficult to find! Finally, I came upon this unit. Not only did it not have the feature I didn’t want, it was a DECT technology phone (meaning it would get along well with other equipment in my home) and it was made by a brand I liked.

When I got the unit home, it just got better. I was able to register the units from my more expensive Panasonic system with the new base unit, and they worked just great.

Since there is so little difference in the typical price between the dual handset (KX-TG6412) and the single handset (KX-TG6411) why not spoil yourself? You know you’ve always wanted a phone next to your royal throne!

One final note. If you are tired of “scammer” phone calls – “auto warranties”, “credit card rate reducers”, fake “bill collectors”, fake “irs agents”, fake “charities”, and all of the other low life tricksters, this phone is for you. Just add them to the phone’s “call block list” and they will be filtered out (assuming you have caller id service). It works much better than that “fake call block” from the phone company that doesn’t accept most of the numbers you want to block.

The VTech LS6215-2 comes with 2 cordless phones and has expansion capability up to 12 phones (I found the expansion phones are available by clicking the Accessories tab at [...]). Apparently, the older VTech LS6115 lacks expansion and intercom features.

This model does not include an answering machine–I prefer using my phone service provider’s voicemail system. There is a voicemail indicator, which works well with my phone service provider’s voicemail system–I use Vonage.

Reception, clarity and range for these DECT 6.0 phones (which operate at 1.9 GHz) are excellent. My previous 5.8 GHz cordless phones had too much frequency interference and had static or no signal. The volume adjusts from Mute to quite loud, with several settings between. The speakerphone is loud and clear on both ends of the line (the speakerphone button is an icon at the bottom left of the LCD screen). The range is also quite good–tried outside my house, about 100 feet from the base.

You can store 50 names/numbers, using the Menu/Select button–it’s similar to saving numbers on your cell phone. Then, select a saved number by clicking the VOL up button and press TALK. Or call back missed/received numbers by clicking the VOL down button and press TALK.

The design is sleek, compact and intuitive. As an example, the intercom feature works great for calling the other handset–just press “INT”, and it automatically dials the other handset. Also, the base has a “Find Handset” button, which when pressed, beeps both handsets. The phone buttons are also unobtrusive and give good tactile feedback. And the phones are easy to clean. Incidentally, the color scheme of the phones and phone bases is black/silver, not black/white.

Very impressive execution.

The phone looks very nice, very slim design looks GREAT.

The voice reception is very clear, the speaker phone works as advice. Only one cons so far. NO HANDSFREE JACK !!! The extension phone works very good with a long range. No wireless interference.

In conclusion:

Very Good.

This phone is totally awesome! Great display, lots of bells and whistles. If you have ever owned a cordless phone before, and the battery dies, so you open the back of the phone only to find a “battery pack”. You look every where and no one carries “that” battery pack. Well…, finally Panasonic got smart and did something about that. This phone comes with plain old Nickel-Metal Hydride Rechargeable AAA Batteries! No more battery pack! In a few years when the original batteries no linger hold a charge I’ll just replace them with easy to find NiMH AAA batteries.

It’s amazing what can happen when I follow directions. Set up of the KX-TG6412M was as easy as taking a few minutes to follow the well written instructions. Once set up, the sound quality was, and is excellent. My wife and I were amazed how light the phone felt in our hands…easy to hold up to the ear. Being members of AARP we both love the large, readable display numbers on the screen. We also love the fact that each phone takes 2 triple A rechargeable batteries – what a great cost savings when replacement time comes around. (They are about 1/3 the cost of normal cordless phone batteries) Finally, when the phones are not in use and not on the cradle, they will hold a charge for 11 DAYS! Talk about energy efficiency. Initial rating? 5 stars…very impressed.
