Big button cordless phones are becoming more and more popular. The question is “Why?”

First I have to confess that I have to wear reading glasses and when I found a big button cordless phone, it was perfect for me. No more fumbling with my glasses just to make a phone call. Which got me to thinking…. if big button cordless phones are so popular then why are cell phones going the opposite direction? My guess is that the size is what is selling them to the masses and not the convenience.

If you need a large button cordless phone then you may want to consider finding one with a large display too. That way you can see the numbers being dialed easily. Okay, I admit that I sometimes screen my calls and look at the display let me know if I need to answer or not. But then I found a great feature on some big button cordless phones. The feature actually announces the callers number. Talk about convenience, this is great. No need to even get up from my easy chair, just wait until the voice from the cordless announces the number. In my case, most telemarketers numbers come up as “out of area” or “toll free call”. I basically ignore all calls from those people.

Another great feature is having an answering machine built in. For the most convenience, you should consider a cordless phone with answering machine built in. A single unit to perform two functions. Another consideration is multiple handsets. These units use one ‘base station’ unit. All the other phones are satellites from that unit. Most manufactures allow you to add multiple phones so you don’t have to spend a lot of money up front. Of course, like most other things, the pricing per unit is a LOT cheaper if you buy the multiple unit system in the beginning. The only problem I have encountered using the multiple unit systems is that after a power failure, you have to put each of the satellite units back into the base unit for it to ‘re-synchronize”. If your area has a lot of power failures (like mine) this can be a bit of a pain. After saying that, let me say that the convenience of multiple units still far outweighs the occasional inconvenience of having to re-synch the units.

Big Button Cordless Phones Manufacturers

There are a number of manufacturers out there making big button cordless phones. Probably the most popular brands are:

    * Panasonic
* Vtech
* GE
* Dect

There are even bluetooth cordless phones out there. These allow you to answer your home phone via your cellular phone (assuming your cellular phone has bluetooth capabilities). For me this is not important, I don’t like being tied to my cell when I am in my home.

For those of you wanting to color coordinate your cordless phone with your home decor, they make big button cordless phones in colors too. Although any color other than beige, black and gray are harder to find. From what I understand, a pink cordless phone is the most popular color other than the standard colors. I’m assuming a lot of the pink ones are purchased for children.

Personally, I love my big button cordless phone and expect big button cordless phones to continue their rise in popularity.
